The Stem&Co Propagation Club started in the middle of the lockdown

The Stem & Co Propagation Club was formed by a community of green-fingered houseplant enthusiasts from across the UK. Each month, members cultivate and produce the same items while learning and growing together. The group engages in a lively and friendly chat where they share photos of their plants and recent growth, and offer each other advice and tips on growing.

While the majority of the conversation revolves around plants, the group also plans social meet-ups. Recently, some members gathered for a Stand Up Paddle Boarding session in sunny Cleethorpes during the summer.

Additionally, the group has become guerrilla gardeners and created seed bombs filled with insect-friendly seeds. They aim to plant these seed bombs in neglected civic areas where floral displays have long been lost in their local areas.

What Does The Propagation Club Do?

The Stem & Co Propagation Club is a group of like-minded green-fingered houseplant enthusiasts from all over the UK. Each month, we collectively grow and make the same items while learning and growing together. Our lively and friendly group chat revolves mostly around sharing photos of plants, discussing recent growth, and exchanging advice and growing tips.

Our club's activities include growing impressive caladium plants from bulbs, pink spotty polka dot plants from seeds, and rare plant cuttings using Leca. We also experiment with various techniques to rid insect pests from our prized houseplants, and we are currently holding a lighthearted competition to grow the SMALLEST dwarf sunflower with a prize for the winner.

Although most of us have not yet met each other in person, we have formed strong bonds in the group chat. We look forward to the day when restrictions are lifted and we can meet for a plant swap and coffee evening and eventually in person.

During lockdown, I felt isolated from my friends and family, so I feel fortunate to have made new friends since creating the group.

Caring for plants and collecting with nature has had a positive impact on my mental health. I wholeheartedly believe that anyone seeking fulfillment can find it in nurturing nature, which is what I have tried to create with the Propagation Club.
